I loved this painting the moment I saw it because of the contrast in colors. I have two huge white hydrangea bushes on my front porch. They've yielded only a couple blossoms since I bought them a few months ago, but there are buds getting ready to burst into full, soft flowers.
How brilliant to juxtapose white hydrangeas against a rich, red background. The intensity and volume of this color create a perfectly balanced composition giving equal billing to the ruby pomegranates. It really feels like autumn, doesn't it?
