The Royal Wedding has nearly begun. Imagine the bridal showers that were given for the soon-to-be princess! One certainly must have included tea sandwiches on pedestal plates.
I have always loved pedestal plates. The first one I ever owned was made of clear glass and I bought it right before my older son's first birthday. I had visions of his using it for his birthday cake in the years and decades that followed. I didn't realize at the time that the cakes I would purchase for his annual celebrations would in no way fit onto a round pedestal plate. His birthday cakes needed to serve many family and friends, so they were usually half or full sheet cakes.
He is in his mid-20s now and I still have the glass pedestal plate I bought for him for his first birthday. I am thinking of giving it to him and his wife. My daughter-in-law loves spending time in the kitchen, so I think they would enjoy that serving piece and I have other pedestal plates that I love.
It's so fun to consider how one or more can be used in a tea tablescape. Stacking them and placing tea sandwiches on each level is perfect. What makes the presentation extraordinary is to place a bouquet of seasonal fresh cut flowers on the top tier. Consider placing that pedestal upside down as often the inverted foot of the dish makes a lovely bowl into which a bit of water and flowers can be placed. Perfectly lovely, wouldn't you agree?!
